ABEOKUTA – The Good Governance Initiative (GGI) has issued a strong rebuttal against the recent allegations made by the impeached former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Mr. Wale Adedayo, labelling them as a “calculated attempt to mislead the public” and a “transparent smokescreen” for his own documented failures in office.

The response comes after Adedayo, in a recent media interview, accused the state government of diverting local government funds and described Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration as “visionless.”

In a press release signed by its Secretary, Olubunmi Fagbemi, the GGI stated that it was “imperative to set the records straight” for the people of Ogun State, arguing that Adedayo’s “newfound crusade for local government autonomy” is a desperate tactic to deflect from the real reasons for his impeachment.

“He was not removed for speaking truth to power; he was lawfully impeached by his own councilors for gross misconduct, financial misappropriation, and a blatant dereliction of the very duties he now pretends to champion,” the statement read.

The Initiative painted a picture of a stark contrast in leadership, noting that while other council chairmen were delivering projects, “Mr. Adedayo was conspicuously absent, preoccupied with writing incendiary letters and waging personal political battles, leaving the development of Ijebu East in a state of neglect.”

The group also categorically dismissed Adedayo’s specific allegations, including the diversion of funds and criticism of the state’s economic direction.

“The claims of diverted local government funds are not only false but are a desperate projection of his own documented administrative failures,” Fagbemi stated. The release further described the “visionless” tag as a “laughable contradiction to the visible reality of ongoing infrastructural development” across Ogun State.

Highlighting a possible motive, the GGI suggested Adedayo’s actions are driven by “political vendetta and sponsorship,” traceable to his past opposition to Governor Abiodun. The statement accused him of being a “sponsored agent of discord,” whose “attempt to dress personal grievance in the garb of public advocacy is an insult to the intelligence of the people.”

Concluding, the Good Governance Initiative urged the public to disregard what it called the “desperate cries of a man whose only legacy in office was failure.”

“Ogun State has moved on, and we advise Mr. Adedayo to do the same,” the statement concluded.
