Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to Be Completed Speedily, Craneburg Assures as Ogun Intensifies Reconstruction

Motorists and residents along the busy Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway have received a fresh assurance of its speedy completion, as the contractor, Craneburg Construction Limited, pledged to deliver the project within record time.

The commitment was given during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects in the Ewekoro area, led by the Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, on Tuesday.

Project Manager for Craneburg, Mr Pierre Andary, disclosed that asphalt laying is already underway on several sections of the critical highway, with the overall project now over 50 per cent complete.

“Despite weather-related challenges, work has continued apace to ensure timely delivery,” Andary stated, highlighting the project’s significant progress.

The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its dedication to delivering durable infrastructure across the state. Commissioner Akinsanya recalled the dire state of the road before the Abiodun-led administration took office in 2019, noting that areas like Sango-Ota were once “like a swimming pool.”

“We made tremendous efforts to fix that, but road reconstruction is not a one-day operation — it takes time,” Akinsanya said, appealing for continued patience from the public. He emphasised that the government prioritises quality and durability, which require meticulous engineering.

Explaining the choice of construction method, the Commissioner revealed that the concrete pavement used along the Ewekoro axis was specifically chosen to strengthen the road and minimise future maintenance, a crucial consideration given the region’s high water table.

Akinsanya also addressed a viral video depicting poor road conditions, clarifying that it did not reflect the current state of work. He assured that the government has already taken steps to alleviate the traffic congestion along the corridor.

“Work is ongoing and will continue until completion,” he affirmed, while also cautioning motorists to drive carefully, especially during the rainy season.

The inspection tour also covered other key roads, including the 8.17km Magboro–Makogi Road, Akute–Alagbole Road, the 9.2km Oke-Aro–Agbado Road, and Papalanto Road.

Mr Jason Zhang, Project Manager for CCECC Nigeria Limited, the contractor on the Magboro–Makogi Road, reported steady progress and praised the cooperation from both motorists and the state government for helping to maintain project timelines.

The ongoing reconstruction efforts have been met with approval from local residents. Mr Uche Okoro and Alhaji Wasiu Sanusi, who spoke during the inspection, commended the state government, noting that the improved roads are set to significantly ease transportation hardships and boost economic activities in the region.
