Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was arraigned at the Ogun State High Court in Onipanu, Ota, on Tuesday, facing multiple criminal charges.
The artist is accused of assault, felony occasioning harm, and resisting arrest. The charges stem from an alleged attack on one of his wives, Ashabi, and an incident where he reportedly obstructed a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, from performing her official duties. Further reports link the singer to an alleged assault on other individuals at his Odogwu Bar on New Year’s Day.
During the court proceedings, two siblings of the absent Ashabi were present as witnesses. Portable became visibly emotional in court and broke down in tears.
His legal team submitted a bail application, but Presiding Judge A. S. Shoneye declined to grant it. The judge emphasized that the allegedly assaulted police officer was not present in court and stated that he needed to see the officer before making a ruling on bail.
Consequently, Portable has been remanded in custody. His bail application has been adjourned for further review until Monday, January 19.
