Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Chief (Mrs.) Lucia Olabisi Onabanjo, the widow of the first civilian governor of Ogun State, the late Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo.
Mama Lucia Onabanjo, a revered matriarch and community leader, was confirmed to have died recently after a brief illness. Her life was widely celebrated for its dedication to family, public service, and the preservation of cultural heritage in Ogun State.
In an official statement, Governor Abiodun described her demise as a great loss to the state and the Onabanjo family. He praised her steadfastness and the supportive role she played during her husband’s administration, noting that her grace and wisdom left a lasting impact.
“Mama Lucia Onabanjo was a pillar of strength and a symbol of dignity. Her life of service and quiet influence continued to inspire long after the tenure of her beloved husband. We share in this moment of grief with her children, extended family, and the entire Ijebu nation,” the Governor stated.
He further affirmed that the state government would collaborate with the family to ensure she receives a fitting farewell.
The late matriarch is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
