ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Government has announced that the newly renovated Ogun State Medical Center of Excellence, a 250-bed hospital in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, is scheduled for official commissioning in December 2025.

Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun disclosed the timeline during an inspection tour of the facility, a project initially built but left with significant structural and engineering gaps by the previous administration.

The Governor described the completion of the hospital as a “Christmas present to Ogun State” and revealed that it would be managed through a strategic partnership. The facility will be operated by Healthshare Integrated Solutions and will serve as a ‘spoke’ for the Abuja Medical Center of Excellence, which has King’s College Hospital, London, as one of its international partners.

“This will be everybody’s first bus stop,” Governor Abiodun stated. “We know how many instances people are rushed from Ogun State to Lagos hospitals… By the time this hospital is commissioned, all that will stop.”

He emphasized that the facility is expected to significantly reduce medical tourism by providing a top-tier healthcare destination not only for Ogun residents but also for patients from neighbouring states like Oyo, Osun, and Ekiti, who often pass through the state to access care in Lagos.

The state government, through its Public-Private Partnership (PPP) office, identified Healthshare Services Limited as the partner to complete and manage the hospital, with a Memorandum of Understanding signed last year.

The Project Manager for Healthshare Integrated Solutions, Dr. Frank Etang, assured that the December deadline would be met. He confirmed that critical sections, including the basement, ground floor, radiology and laboratory units, and consulting rooms, are in place, with work on the first floor—housing the theatre, ICU, and wards—in its final stages.
