IJEBU ODE – The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man, Fatai Quadri, after a video showing him violently assaulting his wife went viral on social media.
The incident, which occurred at the couple’s residence in Illese-Ijebu on September 15th, 2025, sparked widespread public outrage. The graphic footage showed Quadri inflicting repeated fist blows on his wife, Rukayat Quadri, causing significant bodily harm.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, operatives from the Igbeba Divisional Police Headquarters in Ijebu Ode promptly apprehended the suspect.
Preliminary investigations by the police reveal that the assault was triggered by a marital dispute. The conflict allegedly arose from accusations of infidelity and was exacerbated when Quadri transferred ownership of a jointly-built 10-room en-suite apartment to another woman, who is said to have provoked the attack.
“The victim is presently receiving medical treatment,” CSP Odutola stated, adding that “the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.”
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy towards domestic violence. He warned that anyone found culpable of such acts will face the full wrath of the law.
The police command has also urged the public, particularly victims of domestic abuse, to break their silence and report all forms of violence or threats to the nearest police station for immediate action.
“Silence only empowers perpetrators, but timely reporting ensures protection and justice,” the command stated.
