There are very strong indications that the decision of Governor Ibikunle Amosun to dump the All Progressives Congress [APC] may not have gone down well with most of his supporters some of whom were said to have vowed to stay put in the ruling party.
Most of the supporters were said to have worn long faces at Wednesday night meeting at the Ibara GRA home of the Governor where the news was broken to them that they would be moving into the Accord Party where all the 40 consensus candidates would be fielded in the 2019 polls
New Dawn learnt Governor Amosun was said to have observed the long faces and asked them if they were unhappy with the decision but the supporters were said to have kept mute.
Our source at the meeting said “most of us are not going anywhere with the Governor. We will stay in APC where the new leadership will find something for us. Going to Accord or any other party would be an exercise in futility”
In attendance at the meeting were APC members from the 20 local government areas of the state, who were loyal to the governor, as well as top government functionaries in the state.
The state chapter of APC had been engulfed in crisis following the adoption of an oil magnate, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for 2019 as against Amosun’s choice.

According to the source, Amosun briefed his loyalists on the outcome of his meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari as well as the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, which were not favourable.

The source said the governor informed his loyalists that rather than address the pending issue, the party leadership in Abuja asked him to share the National and State Assembly tickets with certain individuals in the state who never participated in the just concluded governorship and legislative primaries.
