The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has slammed Governor Dapo Abiodun’s security plans, describing them as lackadaisical. The party’s criticism comes after Governor Abiodun announced plans to recruit an additional 1,000 Amotekun personnel in the state.

According to Hon. Abayomi Tella, the State Party Chairman, the governor’s actions are passive, and his promises often go unfulfilled. Tella expressed concerns over the Abiodun-led administration’s handling of state security, accusing the governor of copying proactive security measures implemented by other South West governors.

Tella noted that while Amotekun has been successful in other states, Ogun State’s approach has been limited to press releases and photo ops. He emphasized that securing citizens’ lives should not be treated as an afterthought.

The PDP Chieftain also stressed the need for Ogun State to establish local security arrangements that can address security threats proactively, rather than waiting for the uncertain long-term solution of state police.

Tella’s comments follow concerns raised by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, regarding the influx of bandits fleeing military action in the North-West and seeking refuge in the South West. While other states swiftly took action, Tella criticized Ogun State for its slow response, suggesting that the delay puts residents’ lives at risk.

The PDP has urged Governor Abiodun to take state security more seriously and to prioritize the protection of citizens’ lives.
