A 19-year-old drug trafficker has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by a Federal High Court, Lagos, for trafficking in 100 grams of cannabis sativa, popularly called Indian hemp.
The court, presided over by Justice Cecilia Mojisola Olatoregun, passed the jail term on the convict on Friday, after the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had reviewed the facts of the crime against him.
The prosecutor, Jerry Aernan, had informed the court that the convict, Sabiu Musa, was arrested by the NDLEA, on October 24, 2017, on Owo street, Marcas area of Agege, in possession of the banned weed, weighing 100 grams.
The convict, who did not engage any lawyer to defend him, pleaded with the court, to have mercy on him, and promised not to engage in the act if given another opportunity.
Justice Olatoregun, sentenced him to two years jail term with hard labour.
The judge however, gave the convict an option of N2 million, as alternative to the jail term.
