The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has expressed profound gratitude to Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, and Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, for his instrumental role in the ongoing reconstruction of the road from Camp Junction to FUNAAB.

This recognition was highlighted during the University’s 32nd Convocation Ceremony held on January 25, 2025. Senator Salisu, who served as the Guest of Honour, also represented the Ogun State Governor, His Excellency Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON, at the event.

Speaking on behalf of the University, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, HRM Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV, Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land, commended Senator Salisu during his Convocation Address. He lauded the Senator’s unwavering commitment to the University’s development and his facilitation of the vital road project, which was set to improve access to the University and its environs significantly.

In his response, Senator Salisu reiterated his dedication to supporting FUNAAB and its host communities, emphasising his broader vision for sustainable growth in Ogun Central Senatorial District and Nigeria at large. He also conveyed the Ogun State Governor’s Goodwill Message, urging universities in the state to strengthen their integration into local communities. The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering partnerships that enhance educational infrastructure and improve the overall quality of life in the State.

The Camp-FUNAAB-Alabata road, a long-standing concern for the University and its neighbouring communities, is now witnessing remarkable progress, thanks to Senator Salisu’s timely intervention, which has brought much-needed relief to road users.

The Convocation Ceremony attracted a distinguished array of dignitaries, including HRM Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland; HRM Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom; and other notable royal fathers within the University’s immediate environs.

His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Visitor to the University, was ably represented by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Adebowale. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON was represented by Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry. Others were former Vice-Chancellors, Prof. Olusola Bandele Oyewole and Prof. Felix Kolawole Salako, including top dignitaries from various sectors also graced the occasion.

FUNAAB’s appreciation for Senator Salisu underscored the University’s commitment to recognising individuals and initiatives contributing to its growth and the development of its host community.
