Abeokuta, Ogun State – A 64-year-old woman, Maria Ogundipe, has been remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre by an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo for allegedly stoning an aged woman, Kehinde Ojo, to death. The incident reportedly occurred on January 20 at Nawarudeen, along Isabo Road in Abeokuta.

Ogundipe was arraigned on Wednesday on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder. According to the police prosecutor, Sunday Ekong, the defendant allegedly conspired with other residents to kill Ojo over sundry allegations.

During the proceedings, the court did not take the defendant’s plea due to lack of jurisdiction. Ekong, however, filed a motion ex parte, seeking the court’s order to remand Ogundipe for 60 days pending the release of legal advice from the Ogun State Director of Public Prosecution.

Magistrate I. O. Ogunfemi granted the remand order and adjourned the case until April 7 for mention. The alleged offences contravene Sections 324 and 316 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Further details on the case are expected as the investigation continues.
