In the early hours of Sunday, operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, successfully foiled a robbery attempt on the Odogbolu corridor of the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, Ogun State. The incident resulted in the death of one suspected armed robber and the arrest of two others.
According to a statement issued by the Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.), the Amotekun operatives engaged the robbers in a gun duel, during which one suspect was fatally shot. Another suspect, identified as Amechie Okoro, was arrested and subsequently led the operatives to their hideout, facilitating the arrest of an additional gang member who had initially escaped from the scene.
During interrogation, Amechie Okoro confessed to having been recently released from Ikoyi Prison just a week prior. Another arrested suspect, Micheal Oko, revealed that he was initiated into the gang by a ringleader known as Awuha. The suspects are believed to be part of an armed gang responsible for terrorizing the Odogbolu axis of the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway.
Items recovered from the suspects include a motorcycle with plate number Lagos KTU 668, twelve different mobile phones, two locally made pistols, a sum of N113,050, a silver wristwatch, and a red headphone.
Micheal Oko, one of the arrested suspects, hails from Anambra State but resides at No. 3, Olufuwa Street, Ago Iwoye. Amechie Okoro, who was recently released from prison, is from Onitsha, Anambra State, and has been staying in Agric, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The body of the deceased suspect has been evacuated by the police, while the two arrested individuals will be handed over to the authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
The Amotekun Corps Commander commended the operatives for their swift response and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
