Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was arraigned at the Isabo High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, following his surrender to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Yaba on Wednesday. The singer had been declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command in connection with an alleged assault on government officials.
The charges against Portable stem from an incident on February 5, 2025, when he reportedly led an attack on officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development during an enforcement exercise at his bar in the Sango Ota area. The officials sustained injuries during the altercation. While nine of Portable’s associates were arrested at the scene, the singer managed to evade capture until his recent surrender.
Portable, born on March 12, 1994, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, rose to fame with his 2021 hit single “ZaZoo Zehh,” featuring Olamide and Poco Lee. However, his career has been marred by numerous controversies, including public disputes with fellow artists and allegations of violent behaviour.
The Ogun State Government has strongly condemned Portable’s actions, labelling him a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal.” In a statement, the government reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that such behaviour is met with appropriate consequences.
