Abuja, Nigeria – Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned from his position, citing health concerns as the primary reason for his decision.

Sources within the party confirmed that Ganduje submitted his resignation letter to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) earlier today. The former Kano State governor has reportedly been managing an undisclosed medical condition, which has made it difficult for him to continue in the demanding role.

Ganduje’s resignation comes at a critical time for the ruling party, which is preparing for upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Anambra states, as well as strategising for the 2027 general elections.

A close aide to the former chairman revealed that Ganduje had been advised by his doctors to reduce his workload to focus on his health. “It was a tough decision, but his health comes first,” the aide stated.

The APC is expected to convene an emergency meeting of the NWC to appoint an acting chairman while arrangements are made for a substantive replacement. Prominent names being speculated as possible successors include former Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura and former Senate President Ken Nnamani.

Ganduje, who became the APC chairman in 2023, played a key role in stabilising the party after internal crises. His resignation is likely to trigger political realignments within the ruling party.
