Barely two weeks after taking her oath of office, Oluwakemi Rufai, the only female councillor in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, has passed away. Rufai, who represented Ward C1, reportedly died after a brief illness.

The sad news was confirmed on Wednesday by the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Sesan Olowa, and his counterpart in Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Rasaki Kasali.

In separate statements, both council bosses described her death as a rude shock, noting that the late councillor’s dedication to public service and her contributions to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and grassroots development in Lagos State would be deeply missed.

According to the council chairmen, medical experts pronounced Rufai dead on Tuesday, a development that has left both councils mourning the loss of a promising political figure.

This Newspaper will continue to follow developments and provide updates on funeral arrangements and tributes from the political community.
