Iperu Remo, Ogun State – August 16, 2025
In a dramatic early morning operation, security agencies arrested the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hon. Tella, two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and several others in possession of a large sum of cash in Iperu Remo. The arrests were made hours before the ongoing House of Representatives by-election, fueling suspicions of an organised vote-buying and rigging scheme.
Reliable police sources disclosed that the suspects have provided “very useful information” during interrogation, revealing a coordinated plan to bribe voters and manipulate the electoral process in favour of a particular candidate.
“The suspects were caught red-handed with substantial amounts of money meant for inducement,” a senior police officer involved in the operation stated. “Their confessions suggest a broader conspiracy to undermine the election.”
The arrest has triggered widespread condemnation, with civil society groups and opposition parties calling for a thorough investigation and prosecution of all involved. INEC has yet to issue an official response, but sources indicate that the commission may review the election’s credibility in affected areas.
Security has been tightened across polling units as voting continues, with authorities warning against further attempts at electoral malpractice.
