The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Dahiru Umar-Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the Basawa constituency by-election in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
The election, held in Sabon Gari Local Government Area (LGA) of Zaria, saw Umar-Sani secure a decisive victory with 10,996 votes. The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came in second with 5,499 votes, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) trailed behind with 811 and 146 votes, respectively.
The by-election was conducted following the vacancy of the Basawa constituency seat, with the APC consolidating its hold in the state assembly. INEC officials confirmed that the exercise was peaceful and in compliance with electoral guidelines.
Umar-Sani is expected to be sworn in as the new member representing Basawa constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
