The Ogun State Government has stated that it is not deliberately frustrating road projects initiated by Senator Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East, insisting that its goal is the coordination, not obstruction, of development initiatives.

The government’s position was conveyed by Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, during an appearance on the frontline current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ijebu-Ilese.

Akinmade explained that while federal lawmakers from the state typically inform the government about their constituency projects to aid in planning and budgeting, Senator Daniel, a former governor of the state, chose not to follow this due process.

He appealed to the senator to develop a working relationship with the relevant state ministry to ensure alignment. “If a project the state is contemplating is already captured in the federal budget, the state government will now use the resources meant for that one for another road. But in a situation where there is no communication, that’s the problem,” Akinmade stated.

The governor’s aide further urged contractors handling federal constituency projects to collaborate closely with state ministries, assuring that the Ogun State Government would never intentionally block projects designed to benefit its citizens.

Highlighting Abiodun’s Achievements

Akinmade used the opportunity to list the landmark achievements of Governor Abiodun’s administration. He stated that the government has completed over 1,200 kilometres of roads across the state’s 20 local government areas, including the reconstruction of federal highways like the Ijebu-Ode-Epe road to international standards.

He also made significant economic claims, noting that Ogun’s economy has grown from ₦3.5 trillion in 2019 to ₦16 trillion in 2025. According to him, this growth has attracted investors to areas like Sagamu and Papalanto, with plans underway for major projects such as a Disneyland and an entertainment hall to revolutionise the state’s business climate.

Citing the May 2025 report from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Akinmade said Ogun recorded the lowest food price increase nationwide. He added that the renovated Olumo Rock tourist site now generates about ₦20 million weekly.

Describing Ogun as “arguably the most secure state in Nigeria,” Akinmade revealed a ₦500 billion agricultural intervention collaboration with Lagos State. He credited the establishment of farmers’ markets in Abeokuta as a key factor in stabilising food prices.

“In the last six years, Ogun State has been the investors’ destination of choice in Nigeria,” Akinmade declared, attributing this to the administration’s focus on infrastructure, ICT, and maintaining peace and stability.
