ODEDA – The Executive Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Hon. Dr Waliat Folasade Adeyemo, has announced a sweeping series of developmental accomplishments marking her administration’s first year in office. The report, presented during a media briefing at the Council Secretariat, demonstrates a steadfast commitment to translating the “GBAYI” governance mantra into tangible benefits for residents across all ten wards.
Chairman Adeyemo detailed how her administration’s strategic focus on Good Governance, Better Health & Education, Agriculture & Affordable Housing, Youth & Women Development, and Infrastructure (GBAYI) has driven a year of significant progress.
“From the onset, our mandate was to be unwavering grassroots soldiers for the people of Odeda,” stated Dr Adeyemo. “This past year, guided by our GBAYI principles, has been dedicated to laying a solid foundation of impactful projects and programs. We have moved decisively from promise to performance, ensuring every community feels the positive impact of purposeful governance.”
A Year of Strategic Delivery: Key Achievements Categorised by the GBAYI Agenda
1. Infrastructural Development (The “I” in GBAYI)
The administration executed critical projects to enhance connectivity, water access, and public facilities:
· Water Supply: Drilled and installed new motorised boreholes with generators at eight strategic locations: Ikija Polling Unit (Olodo), Iyanbu Village (Itesi), Aba Ojo (Orilellugun), Osiele Market, Akingbade (Obantoko), Fami Village (Alabata), Soderu Village (Alagbagba), and Ika-Titun (Odeda). The moribund borehole at Balogun Lanloko in Opeji was also successfully rehabilitated.
· Road Rehabilitation: Conducted a comprehensive 40-day grading program targeting deplorable roads across all wards. Furthermore, multiple culverts were constructed to improve drainage and access, including along the Killa-Omiyola-Alagbagba Road, at Bode Olude (Opeji), and at Oniroko, Mawuko (Opeji).
· Public Works: The Council’s Caterpillar grader was fully repaired, serviced, and equipped with salient items to ensure sustained operational capacity for ongoing infrastructure maintenance.
2. Better and Improved Health & Education (The “B” in GBAYI)
Substantial investments were made to uplift educational standards and public health amenities:
· Education: Constructed a new block of two classrooms, complete with an office and toilet facility, at the Baptist Primary School in Iyana Abibu, Obete. Additionally, a block of two classrooms with an office and art store was comprehensively renovated at Ilupeju Alagbede, Obantoko.
· Public Amenities: Upgraded sanitary facilities through the provision of essential plumbing accessories for the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) toilets in Odeda.
3. Youth & Women Engagement and Development (The “Y” in GBAYI)
A core focus was placed on social welfare and empowerment:
· Welfare Programs: Implemented targeted distributions of food and cash support to empower youths, young people, and the elderly across the Local Government Area.
· Community Safety: Enhanced public security and night-time visibility through the strategic installation of 120 units of solar-powered street lights across all ten wards.
4. Good Governance (The “G” in GBAYI)
The administration prioritised administrative efficiency and service delivery:
· Facility Upgrades: Renovated key public facilities, including the Local Government Marriage Registry in Gbonagun, the staff toilets at the Council Secretariat, and the Community Development and Social Development building.
· Operational Efficiency: Provision of renewable energy systems within the Local Government Secretariat to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
In her remarks, Chairman Adeyemo expressed profound gratitude to the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his visionary leadership and unwavering support.
“The enabling environment created by Governor Dapo Abiodun has been instrumental to our successes at the grassroots level. We are proud to be effective soldiers in his mission to develop every part of Ogun State,” she stated.
The Chairman also extended her appreciation to the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), all Directors, Councillors, Supervisors, Special Advisers, Consultants, and the entire staff for their dedication. She further thanked political leaders and the resilient people of Odeda for their steadfast cooperation.
Dr Adeyemo reassured residents that the accomplishments of the first year are merely a foundation, pledging her administration’s continued commitment to building upon this momentum with even more transformative projects in the years ahead.
