Abeokuta – The Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to rehabilitating major roads in the Ota area, announcing that construction work on several critical routes is set to commence soon.
The assurance was given during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ota Branch, who had earlier staged a peaceful protest on October 25th over the deplorable state of roads in the axis.
Speaking on behalf of the state, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), revealed that six key roads—Joju, Koro Otun, Navy, Isikola, Ilo Awela, and Oju Ore—have already been awarded to the construction firm Craneburg, with mobilisation to the site expected shortly.
He further outlined a phased plan for additional projects, including the Itele–Ayobo link road to Lagos and the Ayobo Mopol–Lafenwa Junction boundary road, noting that work on the first two phases will begin immediately.
While acknowledging the NBA’s concerns, the government’s team, which included the Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, urged the public to be wary of political actors attempting to hijack genuine grievances.
Akinmade cautioned that “blackmailers” have been hiring individuals to spotlight bad roads and malign the government, even for routes that fall under federal jurisdiction.
The government clarified that repairs on several of the criticized roads were delayed because they are federal roads, and the state was previously restricted from intervening until a recent approval from the Federal Government.
In response, the NBA Chairperson, Chief Mrs. Kelubia K. Ajose, stated that their protest was driven by widespread frustration among residents, but confirmed the Bar had taken steps to prevent external forces from hijacking their initiative.
The state government reassured residents of its commitment, disclosing that eleven new road projects were approved in November 2025, promising a lasting transformation of Ota’s road infrastructure.
