ADO-ODO/OTA – The Councillor representing Sango Ward, Hon. Joel Okeodebija, has marked his first year in office with a detailed account of his achievements, highlighting a tenure focused on community development, infrastructure advocacy, and grassroots empowerment.
In a comprehensive review made available to the public, Hon. Okeodebija’s office outlined key deliverables across various sectors, positioning his first year as one of “people-focused governance.”
A significant part of his legislative efforts included moving motions addressing public health and sanitation. Notably, he sponsored a motion calling for the periodic evacuation and cleaning of waste at the Sango Underbridge and across the local government area, a move aimed at improving environmental hygiene.
In the area of infrastructure, the Councillor reported playing a “central role” in advocating for intervention on the problematic Matina/Plaza road axis. His efforts were directed at improving connectivity and easing the mobility challenges long faced by residents and business owners in the area.
Grassroots Empowerment and Healthcare Access
Beyond infrastructure, Hon. Okeodebija’s report emphasized human capital development. He facilitated public access to skills acquisition programmes offered by government agencies like the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), as well as private and NGO-led initiatives.
“This initiative has significantly increased community participation in training opportunities,” the report stated, noting that it has helped youths and residents gain “sustainable, income-generating skills.”
On healthcare, the Councillor disclosed that he facilitated community-based health-insurance initiatives and forged partnerships with health organizations to enhance access to basic medical services for vulnerable residents.

Maintaining an active presence through regular ward meetings and social media updates, Hon. Okeodebija has committed to fostering transparency and continuous engagement with his constituents.
