AKUTE – In a significant step towards fulfilling his administration’s infrastructure promises, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday, commissioned the newly reconstructed Akute–Ajuwon–Alagbole Road in the Ifo Local Government Area.

The event also served as a platform for the Governor to announce the imminent awarding of 11 additional road projects across the state, a move aimed at further opening up Ogun for economic growth and development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Abiodun described the project’s completion as a “transformative milestone” for the community and the state. He stated that the intervention was a direct response to the long-standing yearnings of residents who had endured the road’s deplorable state for over two decades.

“We reconstructed the Akute–Ajuwon–Alagbole axis and the Alagbole–Akute stretch, which connects to Denro–Ishashi,” the Governor said, outlining the project as part of a broader network strategy.

He detailed the next phases of development in the corridor, noting that the administration will soon take on the Akute–Lanbe–Oke Aro–Agbado–Ijoko–Sango roads. He also provided an update on the critical 17-kilometre Akute–Sango dual carriageway, a project started by his predecessor but abandoned.

“We have divided it into two phases. The first phase, covering 9.7 kilometres up to the Agbado Train Station, is currently under reconstruction. The second phase, which will extend to Sango, will be awarded soon,” Abiodun disclosed.

The commissioned roads include the 1.5-kilometre Alagbole–Ajuwon Road and the 4.5-kilometre Akute–Ajuwon Road. The Governor also promised to return to the area before the new year to commission the adjoining Alagbole–Akute Road and the fully completed Hercules–Oke Aro–Giwa Road.

Governor Abiodun took a swipe at previous administrations for neglecting the economically significant area, stating that his government’s aggressive infrastructure drive is a form of compensation for years of abandonment. He emphasized that the project is a key part of his administration’s Urban Renewal Programme, anchored on the ISEYA development mantra.

In their remarks, the member representing Ifo II State Constituency, Hon. Fola Salami, and the Local Government Chairman, Mr. Lekan Kusimo, lamented the past neglect of the area, hailing the new road as the true dividends of democracy and a relief to long-suffering residents and business owners.

Community leaders, including Alhaji Bashiru Akande and the Odofin of Isheri, Oba Sulaimon Bamgbade, expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for keeping his promise.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, assured that steady progress is being made on other ongoing projects and urged residents to take ownership of the new asset by keeping it clean and protecting the drainage systems from refuse.
