Abeokuta – A tragic accident claimed the life of a yet-to-be-identified man on Monday after he was crushed by a Volvo truck in the Lafenwa/Rounder area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The incident, which occurred around 9 a.m., was confirmed by the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE). According to an eyewitness, the victim, who was a passenger on a motorcycle, fell off the moving bike and was immediately run over by an oncoming truck.
TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi stated that the truck, with license plate BDG 747 YH, crushed the victim’s head, killing him instantly. The accident happened near the Royal Gate Filling Station in the Abeokuta North Local Government Area.
The deceased’s body has been deposited at the State Hospital Morgue in Ijaiye, while the truck involved has been taken to the Sabo Police Station for further investigation.
Authorities urge motorists to exercise caution, especially when sharing roads with motorcycles, to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
