Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti state, has lost out in his bid to be granted bail by the federal high court in Lagos.

On Monday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Fayose on an 11-count charge bordering on abuse of office.

The charges against Fayose were stealing, receiving money from Musiliu Obanikoro, a former minister, criminal breach of trust, illegal acquisition of property in Abuja and Lagos and illegally acquiring property in the name of his sister in Abuja, among others.

Fayose pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.

Subsequently, Kanu Agabi, his counsel, filed a bail application on behalf of his client but Mojisola Olatoregun, the presiding judge, said the application would be considered later since he is entitled to bail.

She ordered that Fayose should remain in EFCC custody till Wednesday.

The former governor had walked into the head office of the commission in Abuja on Tuesday and has been in custody since then.

He was flown to Lagos on Sunday and brought to the court amid heavy security presence.

While in court,  overheard Fayose saying: “This is just like a magistrate’s court. Why did they bring me here?”

Fayose refused to speak with reporters while he was escorted out of the court by EFCC officials and armed policemen.

Many of his supporters trooped to the court but could not gain access. However, Femi Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation, who is an ally of the ex-governor, was in court.
