President Bola Tinubu has expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which lawmakers impeached Hon. Mudasiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. According to sources, Tinubu likened the impeachment to a coup during a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Wednesday evening.

The meeting was attended by the Assembly’s new leadership, including the newly elected Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC). Notably absent were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and the ousted Speaker Obasa, despite being in Abuja.

Sources revealed to this Newspaper that President Tinubu expressed dissatisfaction with how the lawmakers carried out the impeachment, likening it to a coup.

However, after pleas from GAC leaders and acknowledgement of Obasa’s alleged excesses, Tinubu reluctantly endorsed the Assembly’s decision.

Lawmakers had cited alleged infractions, including corruption and highhandedness, as reasons for Obasa’s removal. After pleas from GAC leaders and acknowledgement of Obasa’s alleged excesses, Tinubu reluctantly endorsed the Assembly’s decision.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and the ousted Speaker Obasa were notably absent from the meeting, although Obasa was reportedly in Abuja.

Speaker Meranda, on her part, pledged to prioritize transparency, inclusion, and good governance in her leadership, ensuring the effective delivery of democratic dividends to Lagosians.
