IPERU, NIGERIA — Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has attributed the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s victory in last Saturday’s bye-election for the Remo Federal Constituency to his administration’s “deliberate efforts” to improve the lives of the people and transform the state through infrastructural development.
During a press conference on Sunday in Iperu, where he celebrated the win of the party’s flagbearer, Hon. Adesola Elegbeji, the governor said the election was a clear referendum on his government’s “exceptional strides in governance.” He noted that the people of the Remo Federal Constituency had “spoken loudly” with their votes, despite what he described as “desperate attempts by unscrupulous people to intimidate, harass, and compromise them with unholy inducements.”
Governor Abiodun stated that the victory is a testament to the popularity of his administration and the party, as it validates the success of President Bola Tinubu’s “revolution” over the last 24 months.
“Our administration has been deliberate and intentional in our quest to improve the lives of people and transform our towns and cities through aggressive and massive infrastructural development across the state,” he said. “It (the victory) also underscores our achievements in Ogun State.”
He emphasised that his administration remains “unstoppable” in its pursuit of rapid development and human capital advancement, ensuring that no part of the state is developed at the expense of another.
The governor highlighted that the victory coincided with the approval by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for the Gateway International Airport to begin commercial flight operations. “Without a doubt, this is a monumental achievement that will leave a lasting imprint on the history of our state,” he added. “Ogun State is now connected to the rest of the world.”
While congratulating Mrs. Adesola Elegbeji, he urged her to carry her mandate with humility and diligence, reminding her that the victory is not an end in itself but a “journey of service, of trust, and tangible development.” He called for discipline, focus, and unity, stating, “Our collective strength is the foundation upon which even greater victories will be won.” He also suggested that the outcome of the bye-election is an indication of what the 2027 presidential, governorship, and legislative elections will look like.
Governor Abiodun concluded by appreciating all stakeholders, including party members, traditional and religious leaders, INEC officials, security agencies, and various associations for ensuring a hitch-free election. He also commended the people of the Remo Federal Constituency for their mass turnout and assured them that the new representative would work for their benefit.
In her remarks, Hon. Adesola Elegbeji thanked the people for their confidence and promised to prioritise their interests at the national level. She stated that women and youth development, empowerment, and rural integration would be her main focus, along with securing constituency projects that will directly impact the three local government areas within the constituency.
