The Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, popularly known as “Cornerstone,” has emphasized the need to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Ipokia Local Government in Nigeria and Ifoyin Municipality in the Republic of Benin.
Hon. Avoseh made this call during a meeting with the Mayor of Ifoyin Municipality, Okpeicha Kolawole Adisa Frank, and his delegation on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Ipokia Local Government Secretariat.
In his remarks, Hon. Avoseh highlighted the shared cultural, linguistic, and commercial ties between the two regions, noting that their longstanding relationship has historically fostered unity and collaboration. He expressed optimism that cementing these ties would lead to greater growth, development, and mutual cooperation for both border communities.
Mayor Okpeicha Kolawole Adisa Frank echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the potential for joint initiatives that would promote progress, development, and mutual benefits for the people of both regions. He reaffirmed the commitment of Ifoyin Municipality to deepening the relationship with Ipokia Local Government.
Mr. Emmanuel Senapon Pogbe, the Head of Local Government Administration, proposed the establishment of an annual cultural festival to further strengthen unity and foster stronger bonds between the people of Ipokia and Ifoyin. This initiative, he noted, would serve as a platform for celebrating shared heritage and promoting cross-border collaboration.
The meeting was attended by key officials from Ipokia Local Government, including the Vice Chairman, Hon. Funmilayo Okewole; the Council Treasurer, Mr. Rotimi Opeodu; the Director of General Services and Administration, Mr. Abiodun Adeogun; and the Director of Information, Mrs. Olumide Esther O.
This engagement marks a significant step toward enhancing cross-border cooperation and fostering sustainable development for the neighbouring communities.
