The Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, popularly known as *Cornerstone*, has pledged his administration’s full support to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the fight against drug abuse within the council area.

Hon. Avoseh made this commitment during a courtesy visit by Olusegun Adeyeye, Commander of the NDLEA Idiroko Special Area Command, and his team to the council headquarters on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

Addressing the NDLEA delegation, Hon. Avoseh emphasized the devastating effects of hard drugs on individuals and communities, stating that the consumption of such substances destroys lives and must be vehemently discouraged. He outlined his administration’s plans to sponsor debates in secondary schools to educate youths on the dangers of drug abuse and addiction. Additionally, billboards with anti-drug messages will be erected near school gates to further sensitize the public.

The council boss also revealed plans to include the NDLEA in the next security meeting, highlighting the link between drug abuse and rising crime rates. “Crimes being committed today are often triggered by the influence of drugs,” he noted, underscoring the importance of collaboration between the local government and the NDLEA to address the root causes of criminal activities.

In his remarks, Commander Olusegun Adeyeye congratulated Hon. Avoseh on his electoral victory and assumption of office as Executive Chairman. He solicited the chairman’s support in raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and its impact on public health.

Commander Adeyeye was accompanied by key NDLEA officials, including Akande Olasumbo, Deputy Commander of Narcotics; Awudum Azibanator Oni, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics 1; and Osasona Philimon, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics 2.

The visit was also attended by the Vice Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Funmilayo Okewole; the Head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Emmanuel Senapon Pogbe; and the Director of General Services and Administration, Mr. Abiodun Adeogun.

Hon. Avoseh’s proactive stance against drug abuse reflects his administration’s commitment to fostering a safer and healthier community in Ipokia Local Government.
