Ipokia — The Executive Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, has reiterated the significance of robust intergovernmental collaboration in driving sustainable national development. He made the remark while receiving a delegation from the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), Abuja, in his office on Thursday.
The delegation, initially slated to be led by Mrs. Lucy Okoh but represented by senior BCDA officials, revealed that their visit followed a presidential approval for the construction of a solar-powered water-generating plant in Tongeji Island. The facility, designed with a 10,000-litre transparent fibreglass tank, aims to address the longstanding water scarcity in the border community.
Hon. Avoseh expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, praising the Federal Government for its intervention. He promptly facilitated the delegation’s transportation to Tongeji Island, joined by key officials including Sanitarian Afolabi Taiwo, Director of Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation; Hon. Ayelade Kazeem Iyanda, Supervisor for Information, Education, and Sports; Hon. Bankole Olusola Simon, Supervisor for Medical and Health Services; Hon. John Obeki, Supervisor for Works and Housing; and Mr. Oyede Olusanjo Adewale from the Information Department.
Upon arrival, the team was welcomed by Prince Okiki Innocent, son of the late monarch HRM Obabilorunosi Okiki, Akoko of Tongeji Island, alongside High Chief Idowu Paul, the Ajiroba of Tongeji Island, and community members. The BCDA officials detailed the project’s scope, which was met with overwhelming approval by residents.
As part of the preparatory phase, questionnaires were administered to gather vital data for project implementation. The designated site, provided by Prince Okiki Innocent and High Chief Idowu Paul, was inspected by the BCDA team, who confirmed that soil samples would be taken to Abuja for laboratory testing before commencement. Full execution is expected to begin immediately after results are finalised.
