A 40-year-old man, Taiwo Amos, has confessed to the brutal killing of an innocent herdsboy in Roro Village, located in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, in a case that has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Amos, a farmer, detailed his actions to authorities, stating that the incident occurred after he attended church and went to check on animal traps set on his farm. Upon arrival, he encountered a young herdsboy tending cattle alone.

In a chilling confession, Amos claimed he was overcome by an irresistible and inexplicable urge to commit murder. “I don’t know what came over me. A voice just told me to kill him,” he stated.

Acting on this impulse, Amos used his father’s hunting gun to shoot the boy. He asserted that he only became fully aware of his actions after pulling the trigger, saying, “It was only after pulling the trigger that I regained consciousness of my actions and realized the gravity of the crime.”

Frightened by the cattle fleeing the scene, Amos admitted to waiting until nightfall to bury the body in a shallow grave in an attempt to conceal the crime. He further confessed to dismembering the victim by cutting off his legs before burial.

Initially, Amos provided a false statement to investigators, claiming he had been hired by unnamed individuals to carry out the killing. He later retracted this story, revealing that he confessed after being threatened that traditional rituals would be used to expose the boy’s killer.

“The boy was innocent. He did nothing to deserve that kind of death. He didn’t even destroy my farmland. I was just afraid of dying mysteriously after what I did, so I surrendered myself to the police,” Amos pleaded.

The suspect has since been remanded in custody and has appealed to the government for leniency, maintaining that he acted under a mysterious influence beyond his control.

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and the details of the confession. Investigations are ongoing.
