The Executive Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government, Hon. Dr. Babatunde Oyetola Diya, yesterday presented the proposed “Budget for Development project in 2025,” officially tagged the “Budget of Inclusive Growth and Strategic Continuity,” to the Legislative Council. The budget unveiling ceremony, presided over by the Leader of the Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Adesoye Akeem Tunde took place at the Local Government Secretariat and was attended by a wide array of dignitaries.

In his address, Dr Diya emphasized his administration’s dedication to fostering a prosperous, resilient, and people-centred local government. He commenced by presenting a comprehensive review of the 2024 budget performance, highlighting significant infrastructure and social interventions implemented across the various wards.

Notable achievements of the 2024 fiscal year included the construction of motorized boreholes in Ososa, Idowa, Adefisan, Akio, and Ala, significantly improving access to potable water. The administration also completed the construction of wall drainages in Aiyepe to mitigate perennial flooding and enhance environmental sanitation. Furthermore, rural roads across the local government area were graded and rehabilitated, boosting transportation and economic connectivity. In the health sector, new Health Centres were constructed in Ala and Ikoto, alongside the provision of essential drugs and medical reagents to existing Primary Health Care Centres. The education sector witnessed a boost with the construction of a block of 2 classrooms at Ikishe and the reconstruction of a block of 4 classrooms at Ogbo. Market development also received attention with the construction of 28 open market stalls, 12 lock-up shops with attached 12 stalls, and 30 open market stalls at Aiyepe.

Dr. Diya stated that these projects were guided by principles of equity, community involvement, and responsible fiscal management. “We delivered on critical areas because we listened to our people and committed ourselves to their needs,” he affirmed.

Turning his attention to the 2025 fiscal plan, Dr Diya announced that the “Budget of Inclusive Growth and Strategic Continuity” aims to consolidate ongoing projects and significantly increase investment in key priority sectors. These sectors include: Road construction and rehabilitation, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Education advancement, Health care development, Market infrastructure and empowerment initiatives, Sustainable energy solutions, Entertainment, sports, and recreation, and Public-Private Partnership projects.

Providing a breakdown of the proposed capital expenditure, Dr. Diya highlighted key sectoral allocations for Works and Housing, Education, Legislative Operations, General Administration, Primary Health Care, Water and Environmental Sanitation, Agriculture and Rural Development, and Finance and Revenue Services.

“These figures are not mere estimates; they are tools for transformation. Today’s budget embodies our collective aspirations, values, and commitment. It is a testament to our unwavering dedication to serving the best interests of our community,” Dr. Diya asserted.
He concluded his address with a call for unity and resilience, urging all stakeholders to work together to overcome challenges and achieve the vision of a prosperous and harmonious Odogbolu Local Government.

Receiving the budget proposal, Rt. Hon. Adesoye Akeem Tunde, Leader of the Legislative Council, lauded the Chairman’s performance in the preceding year and assured him of the Council’s commitment to a thorough and expedited review of the 2025 budget by constitutional guidelines.

The event was well-attended by political figures, representatives of civil society organizations, and development partners, culminating in goodwill messages and interfaith prayers for the continued peace and progress of Odogbolu Local Government.
