The Ogun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a robust rebuttal to a recent press conference held by supporters of Senator Gbenga Daniel, describing it as a “sham” built on falsehoods and a desperate attempt to challenge his suspension from the party.
In a strong-worded statement, Olufemi accused the Senator, who represents Ogun East, of organising a “sham press conference” where individuals who are “unknown within the Ogun APC” were allegedly paraded as party leaders.
Allegations of Falsehood and Anti-Party Activities
Nuberu targeted what he described as a “fraudulent submission” regarding Senator Daniel’s ward, stating that a basic check on the INEC voter register would confirm Daniel belongs to Ward 04 of Sagamu Local Government, a claim that contradicts submissions made by the Senator’s team.
The Publicity Director reiterated that the Senator’s recent suspension was strictly an internal party matter triggered by credible accusations of anti-party activities.
Nuberu A Olufemi stated that Daniel “cannot be greater than the party that gave him a platform to contest election” and has consistently ignored internal party summons to defend himself against allegations.
He cited evidence, including a statement from Daniel’s media aide, corroborating the Senator’s alleged efforts to undermine the APC, including campaigning against the party during the last by-election in Remo Federal Constituency.
The APC insisted that due process was followed in the suspension, with reports clearly indicting the Senator ratified by the State Working Committee (SWC). The complaints were allegedly endorsed and signed by the Ward Chairman, Local Government Party Chairman, and other party organs.
‘Gateway Foundation Coordinators’ Paraded as Leaders
Nuberu dismissed the list of individuals presented at Daniel’s press conference as “APC Leaders” in Ogun East, claiming they are actually Coordinators for the Senator’s Gateway Foundation and people who previously worked with him in the PDP.
“The list of people his team is calling “APC Leaders” in Ogun East is fake… Not a single Ward Chairman or Local Government Chairman is on that fake list,” Nuberu asserted.
He further challenged the credibility of the individuals, asking how many of them have “even bothered to attend a simple APC meeting in their respective wards.”
Responding to claims that the SWC members were “compromised,” the APC official questioned why the Senator did not raise such complaints when the same committee ratified his candidacy for the Senate. He defended the integrity of party leaders like Chief Yemi Sanusi and the State Legal Adviser, stressing that the core issue is whether the SWC acted within its constitutional power.
Nuberu concluded by stating that the party’s decision on the suspension “stands,” and the constitutional window to appeal has lapsed, advising the Senator’s supporters that they can only “sustain their appeal on social media.”
