IPOKIA – The ancient town of Ikolaje Idiroko was filled with tributes and solemn reflection during the Grand Finale of the Tribute and Farewell Ceremony for His Royal Majesty, Oba John Olakunle Ojo JP, Afiditi II, the Oniko of Ikolaje, Idiroko Land, who passed away after a landmark 45-year reign.












The event, held to celebrate the life and legacy of the late monarch, was attended by a host of dignitaries from across Ogun State, reflecting the profound impact of his leadership.
In his opening address, the Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, eulogised the late Kabiyesi as a “custodian of heritage, a pillar of peace, and a man of deep wisdom.” He highlighted that Oba Ojo’s decades-long reign was instrumental in fostering unity, preserving culture, and driving development in Ikolaje Idiroko.
“He was a man of humility, discipline, and unwavering commitment to service,” Avoseh stated. “Although Kabiyesi has joined the ancestors, his legacy of integrity and community progress continues to guide the people.”
The ceremony drew significant political figures, underscoring the late Oba’s stature. His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun CON, was represented by his Chief of Staff, DDr Toyin Taiwo, who delivered the Governor’s official goodwill message.
The event also featured key lawmakers, including Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade, Member representing Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency, and the Honourable Member representing the Idiroko/Ipokia State Constituency, Otunba Bisi Oyedele.
Other notable personalities in attendance were Hon. Mrs Olufunmilayo Okewole, Vice Chairman of Ipokia Local Government; Otunba Titus Babajide JP; Hon. Tosin Olateju; Chief Segun Adeosun; former House of Assembly Member, Hon. Matthew Akovoyon, alongside several councillors and supervisors.
The gathering was universally described as a befitting final honour for a king whose life was defined by exemplary service, leaving behind a legacy expected to inspire generations to come.
