Sagamu, Ogun State – The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for Taiwo Egbekunle, a bisexual man wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation. In a related development, Taiwo’s father, Olusanya Egbekunle, has been arrested by the police in connection with the case.
Sources reveal that Taiwo was accused of engaging in a same-sex relationship during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) service in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State. A fellow corps member, Joseph Gbadebo (son of the former commissioner of information and strategy in the Ogun State government), was also arrested after a photo emerged showing them in a compromising position in their camp residence hall.
The incident has stirred significant concern in the community, with calls for calm and cooperation with law enforcement. The police have assured the public that they are working diligently to resolve the matter and ensure justice is served.
In an official statement, the police appealed to anyone with information regarding Taiwo Egbekunle’s whereabouts to come forward. As the investigation progresses, authorities have urged the public to provide any relevant details to assist in the case.
This development occurs amid rising concerns over the treatment of LGBTQ+ individuals in Nigeria, where same-sex relationships are criminalised. Human rights advocates have demanded the release of Olusanya Egbekunle and Joseph Gbadebo, emphasising the need to uphold the rights of all individuals, irrespective of sexual orientation.
The Ogun State Police Command has not issued further statements on the matter but has called for public calm and cooperation as the investigation continues.
