The residents of Atan/Agbara/Igbesa communities accused Governor Ibikunle Amosun led APC government of deceitful and inhumane to the plight of the masses.

The residents who in their hundred staged a warning protest on the deplorable condition of roads in the axis on Tuesday also accused the State government of “deliberately inflicting” havoc on them by abandoning the ongoing road construction in the area.

The visibly angry protesters stormed the Lusada junction of Agbara road with placards inscriptions such, “Let Our Tax Deduction Count, give us good roads”, “Osinbajo Save Agbara/Igbesa/Lusada”, “Bad road is aiding insecurity of our communities”, “No good roads, no massive votes in 2019”.

Addressing the protesters, Otunba -Amona of Igbesaland, Otunba Adewunmi Durojaiye accused Governor Amosune government of being insensitive to the plight of the road users despite generating about 85% of its Internally Generated Revenue from the zone.

Otunba Durojaiye alleged the state government of relocating the industries in the area to Sagamu as a result of the bad condition of the roads.

He said government cannot relocate the industries after abandoning the roads make huge tax from the zone.

According to him, “This is a warning protest and we are here because of the deplorable condition of the roads. The state government is trying to relocate all the companies to somewhere in Sagamu. This is 15kilometre roads to Atan that the government cannot do. This government is deceitful. They came here in 2015 with caterpillars when the election is coming with a promise to construct the roads if re-elected, but as soon as they get our votes, they abandoned the project.

“There is no good roads here, where they get the large junk of their revenue and they are constructing 10-lanes from Abeokuta to Sagamu, how do you explain that, it is unthinkable and unacceptable. Therefore, our clarion call to government is to fix our roads.”

While addressing journalists, the Youths President, Comrade Jide Aina however threatened total shutdown of the roads if the government fails to begin construction in the next one month.

Aina maintained that, the protest is a final warning to the state government, calling on the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola and the state government to fix the road for economy growth of the state.
