IPERU – Governors from Nigeria’s southern states are meeting today in Iperu, Ogun State, for a crucial session of the Southern Governors’ Forum aimed at addressing pressing national issues and reinforcing regional integration.

The meeting, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Iperu residence of the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, was confirmed in a statement issued by the governor, who also serves as the Forum’s Chairman.

In a significant move to foster broader consensus, the governors will later hold a joint engagement with the Southern Traditional Rulers Council at 1:00 p.m. This session is designed to deliberate on matters of shared regional interest and strengthen collaboration between the political and traditional leadership structures.

Ahead of the main event, Governor Abiodun, in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, expressed his delight at receiving the early-arriving traditional rulers and regional leaders.

“Their visit offered us the opportunity to deepen ongoing engagements and align our shared expectations ahead of the gathering,” he stated.

He emphasized the value of their counsel, saying, “We value the presence of our royal fathers and regional leaders, whose wisdom and guidance continue to enrich our processes.”

Governor Abiodun also reaffirmed his commitment as host “to creating an atmosphere that encourages honest dialogue and fosters stronger collaboration among all stakeholders as we work together for the peace, stability, and development of our region and country by extension.”

The meeting is expected to build on previous resolutions of the Forum, which has consistently advocated for greater cooperation on security, economic development, and infrastructure within the southern region.
