OGUN STATE – Gateway International Airport (GWI) is set to welcome its first commercial flights as Value Jet Airlines begins scheduled services from Thursday, October 7.
The commencement follows the official approval granted to the airport by regulatory agencies.
According to the released schedule, Value Jet will operate two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the GWI-Abuja route. The flight will depart from Ogun State at 8:30 AM and arrive in the nation’s capital at 9:45 AM. The return leg will depart from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 4:00 PM, arriving at GWI at 5:15 PM.
Tickets for the new route are scheduled to go on sale on Thursday, September 25. They will be available through the airline’s website, accredited travel agents, and at ticket desks located within the Gateway International Airport.
The new service is expected to significantly improve air connectivity for travellers from Ibadan, across Ogun State, as well as for those in Abuja and Lagos. Passengers can now access flights to Abuja, Lagos, and connecting destinations through the modern facilities at GWI.
The development has been welcomed by various sectors, including business, industrial, and government officials, who anticipate easier access to Lagos and other parts of the country from the new airport hub.
The announcement was confirmed in a statement signed by Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the Ogun State Government.
