On Monday, 10th February 2025, the Commodity Alliance Forum (CAF) Ogun State paid a familiarization visit to Odeda Local Government. The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and partnership with the local government in advancing agricultural activities and ensuring food security in the region.

During the visit, the Executive Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Hon. Folasade Adeyemo, expressed her gratitude to the CAF executives for their visit and reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to prioritizing agriculture as a key pillar of development. She emphasized the critical role agriculture plays in nation-building and acknowledged the challenges faced by farmers, including the labour-intensive nature of the sector.

Hon. Adeyemo stated, “Agriculture is one of the cardinal points of this administration. We will intensify efforts to encourage more people to engage in agricultural activities, despite the challenges. Food security remains a top priority for us.”

In his remarks, the Ogun State Chairman of CAF, Alhaji Kamorudeen Shokunbi, commended the local government for its warm reception and highlighted the Forum’s role as an arm of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), Ogun State Government (OGSG), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and Value Chain Development Program (VCDP). He revealed that the program had supported over 5,000 farmers in Odeda Local Government through capacity building, training, good agronomic practices, and the construction of processing centres.

Shokunbi stated, “Our primary objective is to strengthen our partnership with Odeda Local Government to further enhance agricultural development and improve the livelihoods of farmers in the area.”

In recognition of her dedication to agricultural development, the Forum appointed Hon. Folasade Adeyemo as the Grand Patron of CAF in Odeda Local Government. Additionally, the Head of Local Government Administration, Dr. Adekoya Olusoji, was appointed as a Patron of the Forum.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Oyekunle Adebayo; the Director of General Services and Administration, Mr Oyekan Johnson; the Head of the Department for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Sobukonla Olukayode; CAF executives; and local farmers.

The visit underscores the shared commitment of CAF and Odeda Local Government to drive agricultural growth and ensure food security in the region.
