A fresh scandal has rocked the Lagos State House of Assembly following allegations by Niniola Adegoke, Special Assistant on Youth Affairs and Special Duties to the ousted Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa. Adegoke has claimed that lawmakers were financially induced to impeach Obasa and install Hon. Mojisola Meranda as the new Speaker.

In an interview with News Central TV, Adegoke alleged that each legislator received ₦30 million on January 13, 2025, to support Obasa’s removal. “The reason why they impeached Obasa is because of their belly. It was their belly that decided their direction. I am telling you for free. Those people don’t really mean what they did,” he stated.

Adegoke further challenged the lawmakers to deny the allegations, saying, “Anybody that bases his or her relationship with whosoever is on that seat doesn’t have integrity. None of them can come out and tell me they didn’t collect money. Each of them went home with ₦30 million on January 13. Let them come and tell Lagosians that they didn’t receive a kobo before they did what they did.”

The allegations have sparked widespread reactions among Lagosians, with many calling for transparency and accountability. As of now, the implicated lawmakers have remained silent, while the Assembly leadership is expected to issue an official statement addressing the claims.
