ABEOKUTA – April 5, 2025 – The Oniroyin Support Initiative, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the families of deceased journalists and those facing health challenges in Ogun State, has announced the deeply sorrowful passing of its Convener, Comrade Olatunde Ayinde Oladunjoye.

Comrade Oladunjoye passed away on Friday, April 4th, 2025, at the age of 58, following a brief illness.

His demise comes as a significant blow to the young organization, especially after the successful launch of its inaugural empowerment program on Thursday, February 27th, 2025. The event, held at the Basic Trust International in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, provided financial support to selected families of deceased journalists and individuals with health issues. It also included free medical screenings, medications, and consultations for beneficiaries and attendees.

In a statement released by the Board of Trustees, the Oniroyin Support Initiative mourned the loss of Comrade Oladunjoye, describing him as an “extraordinary individual, visionary personality, and compassionate advocate whose tireless dedication touched and inspired countless lives.” The statement highlighted his embodiment of compassion, resilience, and a strong commitment to positive change, noting that his vision brought relief to those in need and his spirit uplifted those in despair.

The organization emphasized Comrade Oladunjoye’s lifelong dedication to worthy causes, stating that his selflessness and generosity inspired the pursuit of their noble objectives, primarily focused on providing financial assistance to families of deceased journalists.

The statement further acknowledged the multifaceted nature of Comrade Oladunjoye’s life, recognizing him as a “philanthropist, journalist, mediapreneur, an impactful politician, loyal friend, dreaded foe, political cum human rights activist, blunt critic, devoted supporter and a committed family man,” and a “simple, yet fearless man.”

Regarding the Oniroyin Support Initiative, the organization revealed that Comrade Oladunjoye conceived the idea out of a desire to give back to the journalism profession. He reportedly provided the initial funding, spearheaded the registration and legal processes, and facilitated numerous donations to realize the organization’s mission.

The Board of Trustees lamented the loss of such an impactful figure, stating that “Painful was the death of this extraordinary personality who has come to the end of his poetry and has applied the full stop, never to write again.”

However, the Oniroyin Support Initiative expressed solace in the enduring legacy of Comrade Oladunjoye, vowing to continue his work with the support of his family and friends who believe in his cause.

The organization extended its deepest condolences to the immediate family, friends, and associates of Comrade Olatunde Ayinde Oladunjoye during this difficult time, concluding with the sentiment, “May his memory be a blessing to us all, and may we continue to build upon the foundation he laid. Adieu respected Comrade!”

The statement was jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Olufunke Fadugba and Adekunle Olayeni, respectively.
