The Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN), under the leadership of its Chairman, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, has joined His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun (CON), the Governor of Ogun State, in mourning the tragic passing of 20 Kano State athletes.
The athletes were involved in a fatal accident while returning home from the recently concluded 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), Gateway Games 2024, hosted in Ogun State.
The devastating incident, which occurred approximately 50 kilometres from Kano after the team had reportedly passed through Kaduna State, has cast a pall of sorrow over the nation.
In a statement released today, Otunba Sokoya lamented the untimely demise of the young athletes, describing them as “not just representatives of Kano State but also symbols of Nigeria’s vibrant sporting future—talented, patriotic, and full of promise.” He underscored that their passing is “a painful reminder of the fragility of life and a collective loss to our country.”
AMORAN extended its deepest condolences to the grieving families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. “No words can adequately console the pain of losing loved ones in such tragic circumstances,” Otunba Sokoya stated, adding a prayer that “Almighty Allah (SWT) grants them Aljannah Firdaus and gives their families the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.”
The association also conveyed its profound sympathies to His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Kano State Government, the Kano State Sports Commission, and the entire people of Kano State. Otunba Sokoya emphasized the importance of road safety, stating, “May this unfortunate incident serve as a reminder for all road users to prioritize safety at all times.”
As an organization deeply committed to promoting road safety and responsible riding, AMORAN affirmed its shared grief with the wider sporting community and the nation. The statement concluded with a prayer that “such a tragedy never befalls our nation again.”
