Iperu – The commencement of commercial flight operations at the Gateway International Airport in Iperu has elicited strong commendation from the Member representing Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu/Ijebu North East Federal Constituency, Hon. Olufemi Adeleke Ogunbanwo (popularly known as OMO-IWA).
Hon. Ogunbanwo extended his congratulations to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, and the entire populace of Ogun State on the landmark event, which took place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
The Honorable Member was among the passengers on the maiden commercial flight, which departed Iperu at 9:42 a.m. He expressed double delight that the significant achievement coincided with his birthday.
OMO-IWA lauded the remarkable transformation of the airport site, recalling that upon the inception of the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration in 2019, the current location was merely a dump site and a place for rearing pigs.
He noted that the historic airport was constructed from scratch during the first term of the present administration, a period when he proudly served as an Honorable Commissioner. Today, the airport is “adjudged as one of the best Airports in the continent.”
The Federal Lawmaker also highlighted the airport’s unique status, stating that it has received an “unprecedented level of certification never received by any other airport in Nigeria.”
