Obafemi Owode LG Partners GTCO, Smart Energy to Distribute Free 3kg Gas Cylinders to 3,000 Residents

In a bid to promote modern cooking methods and reduce environmental hazards, Obafemi Owode Local Government, in collaboration with Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) and Smart Energy Gas Company, has distributed free 3kg gas cylinders to over 3,000 vulnerable women across the council area.

The initiative, aimed at eliminating the use of firewood and charcoal for cooking, is part of efforts to improve the quality of life for residents and align with global technological advancements. Each cylinder distributed was pre-filled with gas to ensure immediate use by beneficiaries.

Speaking at the distribution event, the Executive Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Amb. Adesina Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, expressed gratitude to GTCO and Smart Energy for partnering with the government to address the challenges faced by residents, particularly women.

He highlighted the importance of the initiative in promoting safer and more efficient cooking methods, while also commending the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for selecting Obafemi Owode as the first local government to benefit from the program.

“This is not just about distributing cylinders; it’s about improving the lives of our people and ensuring they embrace modern, safer, and more sustainable ways of cooking,” Amb. Ogunsola stated.

Mrs Oyinade Adegbite, representing GTCO, urged beneficiaries to follow safety guidelines while using the cylinders. She emphasized the durability and time-saving benefits of the gas cylinders compared to traditional cooking methods. She also hinted at a second phase of the distribution program, thanking the council chairman for his support in ensuring the success of the initiative.

Mr. Temitayo Odeyinka, Director of Administration and Supply at OGEPA, who represented Hon. Akintunde Faruq, Special Adviser to the Governor on OGEPA, praised Governor Abiodun for approving the program and reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of residents.

Traditional and community leaders, including Oba Kolawole Aremu Sowemimo, the Olu of Owode, and Alhaja Ganiyat Ogunleye, Iyaloja General of Obafemi Owode Local Government, also lauded the initiative. They described it as a landmark achievement in the history of the local government and expressed gratitude to the council chairman and the state government for their efforts.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abiodun Sobukonla, SLG Hon. Kayode Dipeolu, Leader of the House, Hon. Ariyibi Saheed, HOLGA Ms Olufunke Adeniji, councillors, and other dignitaries.

This initiative marks a significant step in the local government’s efforts to enhance the living standards of its residents while promoting environmental sustainability.
