The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youths in Ogun State have expressed profound grief over the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebu Kingdom. In a condolence message released today, signed by Comrade Babatunde Aremu, the Ogun State Youth Leader of the APC, and issued by Timothy Odedina, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ogun State Youth Leaders’ Forum, the youths paid tribute to the late monarch’s enduring legacy.
“On behalf of the entire All Progressives Congress (APC) Youths across Ogun State, we express our profound grief and heartfelt condolences on the passing of His Royal Majesty, Ọba Sikiru Kayọde Adetọna, the Awùjalẹ̀ of Ijẹbu Kingdom, who joined his ancestors on July 13, 2025,” the statement read.
The APC youths highlighted Oba Adetona’s significant role beyond his royal duties, recognising him as a “pillar of unity, progress, and youth empowerment.” They noted that his remarkable 65-year reign, “one of the longest in Nigeria’s history, was marked by unparalleled wisdom, peace, and transformative leadership.” The statement particularly emphasized his special relationship with the younger generation: “He was a true friend of the youth, as seen in his immense contributions to education, including the establishment and support of higher institutions in Ogun State—one of which was rightly named after him by our visionary Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON.”
“We mourn a monarch whose legacy of development, cultural preservation, and mentorship will forever remain indelible in our hearts. His doors were always open to the youth, offering guidance and advocating for our future,” the message continued, underscoring the Awujale’s accessibility and support for young people.
The APC Youths extended their sympathies to key figures and institutions in the state: “To His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, the good people of Ijẹbu Kingdom, the Ogun State Traditional Council, and the bereaved family, we share in your grief. The entire Ogun State has lost a royal icon, but we take solace in his remarkable life and enduring impact.”
The condolence message concluded with a prayer for the departed monarch: “We pray that Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and gives the family, the Ijẹbu nation, and Ogun State the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss. Ọba Adetọna, the great Awùjalẹ̀, has run his race. May his legacy live on forever.”
