Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sports have lauded the State Government for its extensive preparations ahead of the upcoming National Sports Festival, scheduled for May 2025. The commendation came during an inspection tour of the upgraded facilities at the MKO Abiola and Ijeja Stadia.

Led by the Committee Chairman, Hon. Lukmon Atobatele, the lawmakers were conducted around the stadia by the management team of the State Sports Development Ministry, headed by the Commissioner, Mr. Wasiu Isiaka. The tour aimed to assess the level of readiness for the festival, which is expected to attract athletes and spectators from across the country.

Hon. Atobatele, accompanied by Honourables Folawewo Salami, Wasiu Ayodele, Oyedele Adebisi, and Adegoke Adeyanju, praised the State Government for its commitment to meeting international standards in sports infrastructure. He emphasized that the ongoing projects reflect the administration’s dedication to maximizing the benefits of the festival and fostering sports development in the state.

The Committee Chairman urged contractors handling the projects to ensure timely completion without compromising on quality and safety standards, particularly for the athletes who will use the facilities.

In his remarks, Commissioner Isiaka highlighted the State Government’s efforts to advance sports and engage more youths in productive activities, thereby reducing social vices. He noted that the festival would serve as a platform to further enhance the state’s sporting ecosystem and attract future sporting events.

The lawmakers inspected key facilities at the MKO Abiola Stadium, including the eight-lane Tartan Track, football pitch, swimming pool, handball, and tennis courts. At the Ijeja Stadium, they reviewed the squash and handball courts, weight and powerlifting arena, and indoor hall.

The State Government assured that all projects are on track for completion ahead of the festival, promising a world-class experience for participants and visitors alike.
